At Cleangreen, we believe balance is important to healthy, happy lives.

It’s why we encourage our employees to get involved and give back to their community. It’s why we celebrate their achievements, not only at work, but outside of it.

We think it’s vital for all of us – our colleagues, our customers, our family, our friends – to have creative, athletic, and social pursuits outside of their 9-to-5 jobs. Doing so allow us to spread our wings and find joy in life. And it makes us more productive in all that we do.

Our CEO Jitka Borowick is a perfect example. When not leading our company, you can often find her on a bicycle. It is where she pushes herself and tests the limits of what she can achieve.

Since 2017, she has done just that by taking part in the grueling Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb. With some of the steepest grades, it’s considered the toughest hillclimb in the world.

And for Jitka, it’s been as difficult as it comes. That first year, she admitted there were several times when she wanted to quit. She came close, but continued, pushing forward, one pedal and one hill at a time.

Last year, she never made it to the top.

This year, she set her sights on not only finishing, but besting her 2017 time. She trained harder with the goal of not letting failure define her.

In August, she came in second in her age group and beat her personal best by 2 minutes. It’s a perfect lesson for all of us that no matter what happens in life, we need to get back on the bike. We need to keep riding. We need to keep pushing forward.

At Cleangreen, we’re celebrating our 11th anniversary this year. Success didn’t happen overnight. We’ve faced bumps in the road and steep hills that have seemed insurmountable. But we keep pedaling. Like Jitka, we know that we can always get better. We can always improve.

When we accomplish our goals – as a company, as employees, and as individuals – it is important to recognize them. And then, it’s onto the next mountain.
